Where do I go to log into Box?

Go to box.depauw.edu and use your DePauw Account (i.e., e-Services, network) username and password to log in. Please note that box.com/depauw is not the correct Web address.

When logging in from off campus, you will get a 2-factor prompt the first time you log in, and then once every 30 days, assuming you check the Remember me for 30 days box.

When logging in from on campus and if you have already set up Duo, then you will never see the 2-factor prompt. If you have not set up Duo, you will get the Duo setup prompt.

What are the advantages of Box compared to how we currently store information?

Box has additional security protocols that enable us to save more private content than what we have with DePauw’s Google Drive. We can put everything in Box except for HIPAA information. Box’s Web-based interface enables secure access from any mobile networked device. Data Managers are folks designated by their department who assign rights and create sub-folders within their department folder.

Do I need to manually add or remove staff members to our Box department folder when they change departments or leave the University? What about changing the Box Manager?

Box is automated with ADP. When Human Resources updates an employee’s record, the information will be pulled into Box during the overnight process as long as the original Box Department folder names are intact.

Why isn’t Excel Online working when I click on it?

If Box Online is not working, check to see if hidden collaborators is set. Office Online will not work if you have hidden collaborators so you need to change this setting.

What do I do if I want to share content between myself and another person on campus?

A new customized folder will need to be set up for you in your department’s Restricted folder with the access and rights that you specify.

What’s the difference between Excel and Excel Online?

All Office Online products (Excel, Office, PowerPoint) are limited versions of the locally installed versions.

Can I use FTP with Box?

You can use FTP for the initial bulk uploading and occasional bulk downloading of files from your account; however, Box does not recommend using FTP as your primary access method.

How long will documents sit in the trash before they are permanently removed?

Documents you place in the trash are removed after a 90 day waiting period.

I found a Box App I’d like to use. How can I get it installed?

To submit a request for an App to be considered for installation with Box, complete the Box Apps Request Form so we (I.S.) can vet them for compatibility with our other services.

Why did Box automatically log me back in when I logged out of Box to let my co-worker log in?

This happens because of your browser settings. To reset your browser settings, either completely log out of the browser, and then have your co-worker log in, or clear your browser history.

Excel Online won’t open because of an unsupported feature. What is going on?

You need to remove protection in Excel by:

  1. Select all the cells in the spreadsheet, click Format → Cells … → Protection, deselect all check marks, and then click OK
  2. Click Tools → Protection → Protect Sheet, deselect all check marks, and then click OK
