Mac: Optimizing (compressing) images in Microsoft Office

Optimizing or compressing images removes redundant or otherwise unnecessary data from image files. This results in a smaller file size and faster loading on websites. The following step-by-step instructions were developed for Microsoft Word/PowerPoint 2011.

  1. Select the image you wish to compress
  2. Select the Format Picture ribbon, and then click Compress

  3. From the Reduce File Size window, select Selected pictures only → OK
