High Definition Classroom Cart: Technology controls

The following step-by-step instructions are designed to help you operate the technology controls in a lab or classroom. You may also set up an appointment with FITS for training in the room that you are teaching or presenting in by calling 765-658-4673 or emailing fits@depauw.edu.

  1. Turn on the projector using the small white Panasonic remote
  2. Set the projector for connecting by choosing the input type on the video switcher that is found on the shelf below the keyboard. Input type options include:
    • Laptop VGA – VGA 1
    • Lectern Computer – VGA 2
    • Laptop HDMI 1 (Recommended for connecting laptops)
    • Region Free Blu-Ray – HDMI 2
  3. Connect your laptop
    1. For a VGA connection, use the black VGA cable on the right side of the cart to connect.
    2. For a HDMI connection, use the blue HDMI cable on the right side of the cart to connect.
    3. Note: A tethered display adapter for laptops is tethered to the cords. If you need a different adapter, contact Media Services at 765-658-4790, preferably ahead of class time.
  4. Project your screen: If your laptop is not projecting, first unplug the cable to your laptop and then plug it back in. If this does not fix the issue, please continue with the following instructions:
    1. For Windows 8
      1. In the upper right corner of the screen, click DevicesSecond screen Duplicate (Note: you can also press F4 on your keyboard)
    2. For Windows 10
      1. Click the Windows Logo Key in the lower left of the screen, and then click SettingsSystemDisplay Notifications Power
      2. In the left column, click Display → Duplicate these displays found in the Multiple Displays section
    3. For MacBook
      1. Ensure the cable is connected
      2. Using the projector remote, and select HDMI 1
      3. Ensure your computer preferences are set up as follows:
        1. Ensure the cable is connected to the external displayImage of Mirror Display
    4. For projecting from a thumb drive, use the Lectern Computer (i.e., the small silver box on the middle shelf). Do not use the USB slot to connect devices for projecting, such as an iPad, which needs an adapter.
  5. Play audio
    1. Adjust the volume with the volume control dial on the right side of the video switcher
    2. To prevent your laptop from buzzing, plug in the thin audio cable that is attached to the VGA cable into your laptop headset port
    3. To play audio using HDMI on a Mac, go to System Preferences, and then click SoundOutputHDMI
  6. Region Free Blu-ray player is controlled with the Sony remote
    1. Turn on the play
    2. Open the tray
    3. Press the appropriate button on the remote control to select the region
      1. Zone A: Press the yellow button
      2. Zone B: Press the blue button
      3. Zone C: Press the red button
    4. The data projector volume should be at zero

Help extend the life of projector bulbs

Please extend the life of projector bulbs by pressing the projector’s power button twice before leaving the room. Projector bulbs cost approximately $500 each.
