Campus Labs: Defining key terms

Key terms used by Campus Labs Engage.

Groups

A Group identifies your program, department, organization, club, etc. as one of the following:

  • Student Groups
  • Faculty & Staff Groups
  • Faculty, Staff, & Student Groups

Hard-Coded

Hard-Coded refers to out-of-the-box settings preset by Campus Labs Engage that cannot be modified or hidden.

Organization Types

An Organization Type is used to categorize your group. Faculty & Staff Groups will be most prevalent in the Gold Connect setting with extensive Student Groups offering a diverse assortment of opportunities in which you can participate.

Positions

A Position defines what a person can do within a Group including their level of access and permissions.

A Relay is a message.

Switchboard

How you navigate between different views of Gold Connect with each view allowing users to achieve different tasks.

Tool Menu

After clicking on the following icon in Gold Connect…

…you will see the options available to you for creating and managing content in your group. These tools are based on your position within the group.

Options may include the following:

Home: Action Center Home provides a summary of your group. On this page, you will see your group profile photo, the name of the org, the number of members, and the name of the Primary Contact.

Roster: The Roster tool includes your ability to manage positions for the group, send group messages, invite members, remove members, and approve pending memberships.

About: In the About tool, you can update some of your group’s basic details, such as the profile photo, description, summary for the group directory, contact information, and social media links.

Events: The Events tool allows you to create and manage your group’s events, submit an event request, or manage an individual event, including inviting attendees, tracking participation, or changing an event’s details.

News: The News tool helps you share what your group is doing with the community. You can create, edit, and delete News posts from this area.

Gallery: The Photo Gallery helps you create a more visually appealing group home page. Photos are a great way to show off the exciting things your group has done! Your gallery photos will be showcased at the top of your group’s public-facing page.

Documents: The Documents tool allows you to create a shared storage space for important organizational files. You can share these files publicly or only with certain members or Position holders within your group.

Forms: Use the Forms tool to move any of your group’s paper forms into Engage. Use forms for sign-ups, interest forms, applications, and more!

Elections: The Elections tool allows you to create elections for your group, either for the entire community to vote on, or exclusive to group members.

Finance: The Organization Accounting/Finance feature allows those with the right permissions to make financial requests for your group.

Service Hours: If your campus utilizes the Service Hours feature, you will be able to submit service hours on behalf of your group’s members.

Explore View: Click Explore View to navigate to the public-facing page for your group.

Action Center Home: Use this button to return to the general home page for your Action Center, where you can switch back and forth between Action Centers for the different groups in which you are involved.
