If this is your first time accessing the network from off campus, you must first download the Virtual Private Network (VPN) client.
Installing the VPN
- Check the box that you have read the license agreement and click Next.
2. Check the box for Secure Remote Access and click Next.
3. When presented with the Additional Security Features window, leave all options unchecked and click Next.
4. At the Destination Folder window, click Next.
5. At the Ready to Install FortiClient window, click Install.
6. At the Completed the FortiClient Setup Wizard window, click Finish.
Tips for using the VPN
- VPN licenses are limited. We recommend that you download the file(s) you need to access, and then close your VPN connection so others may access the VPN.
- VPN access is limited to a one hour session.
- The VPN may automatically log you out after 15 minutes of inactivity.
Accessing the network from off campus is a two step process
Step 1: Connect to the VPN
- Click Start → All Programs → FortiClient → FortiClient
- At the FortiClient window, click Remote Access → Configure VPN.
- For Connection Name, enter “DePauw VPN” (without the quotes)
- For Description, enter “DePauw VPN” (without the quotes)
- For Remote Gateway, enter “remote.depauw.edu” (without the quotes)
- Select the Do not Warn Invalid Certificate box
- Click Apply → Close
- At the FortiClient Console window
- For Username, enter your DePauw account username.
- For Password, enter your DePauw account password.
- Click Connect.
Step 2: Connect to the network drives
- Connect to your network drives by following the steps at Connecting to network drives: Windows
- Complete your task
- Go back to the FortiClient window, click Disconnect
