DyKnow Vision: Installing on Windows computers for the first time

DyKnow Vision runs on most Windows-based computers, as well as on Macintosh computers using Virtual Desktop. Mac users who require Virtual Desktop for a course can download the client following Virtual Desktop for Macs Running Windows Applications instructions. Mac users will not need to install DyKnow, instead they will use Virtual Desktop to access DyKnow.

These instructions are for Windows users who have never had DyKnow installed on their computer, and they were created with version 5.8 of DyKnow. Click here if you are upgrading from an earlier version.

DePauw-specific Installation Instructions

  1. Download and install Microsoft .Net Framework Version 4.5. If the software is already installed, you will see a message saying that the same or a higher version of the Framework is already on the computer. If you have Windows 8 or higher, the Framework will already be installed. This is okay. Proceed to the next step.
    Install Dot Net 4.5
  2. Download and install Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Redistributable 32 bit. If the software is already installed, you will get an option to Repair, Uninstall or Close. You  should select Repair, which will verify that the prior installation is correct.
Install Visual Studio 2012 32 bit
  3. The remaining step varies depending on whether you have a 32-bit operating system or a 64-bit operating system. If you are are not sure which operating system you have, try the following:
    • Open the Control Panel.
    • Double-click on System.
      System Tool in Control Panel
    • The System Type specifies the operating system installed.
  4. Download and install DyKnow Vision. The installer packages install silently, without additional input from you.
