How do I install DyKnow on my computer?

Browse to DyKnow 5.8 First Time Install or DyKnow 5.8 Upgrade from Earlier Versions for step-by-step instructions on how to install the DyKnow client on to your Windows computer. Mac users browse to Virtual Desktop for Macs Running Windows Applications to install Virtual Desktop and DyKnow.

Where is DyKnow available on campus?

DyKnow is installed in all public computer labs and technology classrooms, including:

  • Julian 278*
  • Olin Computer lab (2nd floor)
  • Roy O. West Library computer lab (lower level)
  • FITS

Can I run DyKnow on a Mac?

DyKnow will run on a Mac if the Mac is running Virtual Desktop. This is available for download by browsing to Virtual Desktop for Macs Running Windows Applications to install Virtual Desktop and DyKnow or a Windows emulator software, such as Virtual PC or Parallels Workstation and then installing DyKnow.

How can I view a DyKnow notebook if I don’t want to install DyKnow on my laptop?

You can use the instructions below to create a PDF of the DyKnow notebook on any lab computer.  Then you can open the PDF file on your own laptop.

How do I create a PDF of my DyKnow notebook from a lab computer?

  1. Open the DyKnow notebook that you want to convert to a PDF document
  2. Click the DyKnow Menu button
  3. Click Print
  4. In the Name selection box found in the Printers section, select Cute PDF
  5. Click OK
  6. In the widow that appears, select the location where you want to save the notebook
  7. Enter a Filename
  8. Click Save

How do I print from a Mac within Virtual Desktop?

In order to print within the Windows environment, see Printing from Windows: Installing Network Printers to install printers within Virtual Desktop. After this is completed, printing can be started by following these steps.

  1. In DyKnow, click the Application MenuPrint
  2. Click OK

How do I save my DyKnow notebook on a Mac within Virtual Desktop?

Saving files on a Mac within Virtual Desktop is the same process as saving a file in other programs. To save a DyKnow notebook, complete the following steps:

  1. In the Application Menu, click Save As
  2. In the Save As window, select a location and specify a notebook name
  3. Click Save
