Symantec Endpoint Protection: Mac

This version of Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) works on Intel-based Macs running Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks).

Installing Symantec Endpoint Protection

  1. Install all recommended Apple software updates.
    A. Click the Apple icon at the top left of the screen.
    B. Click Software Update → Show Details.
    C. Select all the updates and click Install X Items → Agree.
  2. Click Symantec Endpoint Protection.dmg.
  3. When prompted, enter your DePauw Account username and password, and then click OK.

  4. Double-click the Symantec Endpoint Protection.dmg file you downloaded.
  5. In the Symantec Endpoint Protection window, double-click Symantec Endpoint Protection Installer.

  6. In the “Symantec Endpoint Protection Installer” window, click Open.

  7. In the Welcome… window, click Agree & Install.

  8. In the Symantec Endpoint Protection Installer window
    1. Enter your system name and password.
    2. Click Install Helper.

  9. In the Your Symantec Endpoint Protection install is almost complete window, click Close & Restart. (Note: Your computer will restart to complete the installation process.)

Scheduling Software Updates

  1. Open Symantec Endpoint Protection.
  2. Click LiveUpdate.
  3. Click Symantec Scheduler.
  4. Click New.
  5. Click Product Update.
  6. In the Add Product Update Task window
    1. For Enter a name for the task, choose a name and type it in the information box.
    2. For Choose a product to update, keep the default setting.
    3. For Set a Frequency, select Daily.
    4. For Set the time, select a time for LiveUpdate to run.
    5. Click Save.

Scanning for Viruses

  1. Open Symantec Endpoint Protection.
  2. Click Scan…
  3. In the Select Scan Target window, select your computer’s hard drive and click Select.
  4. Once the scan has completed successfully, click Close.
