Moodle navigation

This page provides basic information regarding navigating in Moodle 2.7. If you do not find your answer here and have checked the other instructions on Moodle in the KnowledgeBase, including Moodle Overview for Faculty or Moodle Overview for Students, please email your question to moodle@depauw.edu.

Please note the number of  blocks and their content will change depending on where you are in Moodle – on the homepage or in a course.


Moodle login

Moodle works best with the latest version of Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome for both Macintosh and Windows environments. Please click on the browser’s link above to download the latest version.

  1. Browse to https://moodle.depauw.edu/.
  2. Find the Login block in the left-hand column.
  3. Complete the Username and Password fields with your DePauw network username and password. (Note: See Change Password: DePauw Account for password assistance.)
  4. Click Login.

Moodle home page

After logging into Moodle, the Moodle home page is displayed. In the upper right-side of the screen, your login information and the Logout button are displayed. The right-side column displays DePauw-specific information about Moodle, including the latest news and activity. The left-side column contains the Navigation and DePauw Links blocks.

Welcome to Moodle 2.7

The welcome section contains information about the preferred browser, important reminders, codes of conduct and site news.

  • Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome – The recommended Web browsers for full functionality for both Macintosh and Windows.
  • Important reminders – Suggestions for the most common Moodle problems as well as changes in procedures.
  • Codes of Conduct – The codes of conduct guide for student, faculty and staff on Moodle courses/sites.
  • Site news – News on scheduled maintenance times and other Moodle news.

Navigation block

  • Home – Directs users back to the DePauw Moodle home page.
  • My home – Takes users to their personalized dashboard. This personalized dashboard is where users can view their messages, course overview, calendar and upcoming events. Once you are on the My home page, you can reorganize that page by clicking the Customize this page button in the upper right corner.
  • Site pages – Displays links to the pages and resources Site Blogs, Tags and Calendar.
  • My profile – Provides quick links to a user’s profile, Forum Posts, Blogs and Messages.
  • My Courses – Lists the users courses and sites. The courses are displayed by semester/category.

Administration

The Administration block provides easy access to change various settings.

  • What you see in this block will change based on your location within Moodle, such as the home page, in a course, etc. Also, the options you see while on a course page will depend on your role within the course (e.g., student, teacher, etc.).
  • While on the home page, everyone can see the My profile settings options that include Edit Profile, Messaging and Blogs.
  • Links to campus resources are included in the DePauw Links section, such as the DePauw University home page, Google Apps, e-Services, the Course Request form, the Library Course Reserves and the IT HelpDesk.

Top Navigation

The top navigation provides quick links to the Moodle landing page on the IT KnowledgeBase, the DePauw home page, the Library home page and Google Apps. (Note: Keep in mind other helpful information, such as the IT KnowledgeBase and moodle@depauw.edu.)

Logout

A Logout link appears in the upper-right hand corner of most Moodle pages. If this link does not appear

  1. Click Home in the Navigation block.
  2. Click Logout, which is located in the upper-right hand corner of the window.
