Accessing the network from off campus: Windows

If this is your first time accessing the network from off campus, you must first download the Virtual Private Network (VPN) client.

Tips for using the VPN

  • VPN licenses are limited. We recommend that you download the file(s) you need to access, and then close your VPN connection so others may access the VPN.
  • VPN access is typically limited to a one hour session.
  • The VPN may automatically log you out after 15 minutes of inactivity.

Accessing the network from off campus is a two step process

First, connect to the VPN

  1. Click StartAll Programs → FortiClient → FortiClient.
  2. At the FortiClient window
     |
    Click Remote Access → Configure VPN.

    1. For Connection Name, enter “DePauw VPN” (without the quotes).
    2. For Description, enter “DePauw VPN” (without the quotes).
    3. For Remote Gateway, enter “remote.depauw.edu” (without the quotes).
    4. Check “Do not Warn Invalid Certificate”.
    5. Click Apply → Close.
    6. For Username, enter your DePauw account username.
    7. For Password, enter your DePauw account password.
    8. Click Connect.

Second, connect to the network drives

  1. Connect to your network drives by following the steps at Connecting to network drives: Windows 7.
  2. Complete your task.
  3. Go back to the Net Extender window, click Disconnect.
