2-Step Verification

2-Step Verification offers an additional layer of security for your Google Apps account. In fact, 2-Step Verification is something you do each time you withdraw money from an ATM by using something you have – your debit card – with something you do – entering your PIN. It only takes a few minutes to set it up, and the increased security for campus is worth the slight decrease in convenience for individuals.

You can learn more about 2-Step Verification by watching Google’s Using 2-Step Verification video or by reading Why you should assume your email will get hacked or leaked eventually by Timothy B. Lee at Vox.

If you receive a 6-digit code on your phone after setting up 2-Step Verification on your Google Apps account and you did not request the code, then someone else did and they are trying to break into your account. This is a red flag for you to change your password immediately!
